inflighted byger -- inflicted by jerry sandusky on his victims. we can make sure the culture, actions and inactions that allowed them to be victimized will not be tolerated in college at athletics. >> ncaa took away scholarships from the football program also. sanctions in place to make a statement to universities and colleges that sexual abuse victims and the hiding will not be tolerated. sherrie johnson is here with reaction from one sex abuse victim not connected with sandusky. >> 37 year old colby simon was abused by an older cousin as a child and for the first time she is going public. the news surrounding the sandusky sex abuse scandal made for sleepness lights, bringing up bad memories. she realized the older cousin who attacked her had other victims. she went back in to therapy to

deal with the secret, she says crippling a football program is a strong message that child abuse will not be tolerated. she says nothing will change the impact of being abused as a child. >> there is no closure to this type of thing, just the day-to- day coping. >> simon says she lives with the guilt of not speaking up and learning of other victims. >> what would she like to see in the future? >> she likes the idea that people are talking about this. it's important to create awareness to get people talking. this is the only positive thing that has come out of the penn state scandal. 6:05, also this morning, the deadly massacre in colorado at the movie theater, sparking conversation about gun laws, today a number of lawmakers holds agnus conference about the issue. yesterday we got ow fist lack at the man accused in the shootings.

james holmes, his hair dyed red, appearing dazed. he will be charged next monday. prosecutors say they are considering the death penalty. you lost power for days, some for a week after the nasty run of storms. this morning, linda so is middl some people there say it was not the power outage but the result of too many trees. >> reporter: they are blaming it top county. we are here in middle river. this is where the problem area is. at the bottom of the street in an area that's owned by the county. people who live here say the county has not maintained the trees that sit on the property and it's one of the trees that fell during the storm that caused the massive outage in the area. the storms swept through in early july, the power was out for 7 days in the community because of that big tree that fell on the power lines. that tree came from a wooded area owned by the county.

people say there are big trees on the piece of county owned land. they have been calling about the problem for years. they sent inspectors in to check out the area. in the next few weeks, some of the trees will be coming down. public service commission will hold a hearing. we have two public meetings scheduled, one for september 13th , the other for the 14th. both happening at 10:00 in the morning at the william donald shaffer tower downtown. there is a push to raise the minimum wage to help struggling families pay bills. a group involving lawmakers and clergy gathering, urging congress to act on the resolution. the bill would raise the wage $0.85 a year for three years

take a look, michael took this picture of a dried up lake in indiana. the u.s. department of agriculture declared 1300 counties disaster areas due to the drought and excessive heat. we need rain , the answer is yes. there is no relief in sight. there is no relief. drought is drought. it's difficult to get rid of drought. we need the rain. we are 7 inches below for the entire year. we need to have that come on. let me show you around the nation. you can see how sparse and scarce that rain is. we see showers and thunderstorms up to the north and a few scattered showers towards the west. other than that, paceically

glaciers crumble. a wave chasing a boat. more with wow factor. >> reporter: he wasn't exactly as cool as ice but there were no expletives to delete when this happened. off the coast of greenlands, part of a glacier collapsed sending a mini tsunami at this motor boat. just about every five seconds he said it. until the waves hit. the boat was sideways towards the glacier and when his uncle saw the wave coming he gunned it out of there. no one was hurt. not the tourists they were taking sightseeing. unless you think the only language he speaks is wow. >> i've never been this close

to dying before. >> reporter: the thing that seemed to impress people was the way the shooter held the camera steady and stayed focused instead of ducking and covering. yen says that's because he was looking in the view finder. >> the screen is pretty small. on the screen, the waves looked really small. >> reporter: yen is a 23 year old mechanical engineering student, said the ice was cracking for four minutes before the collapse and for some reason -- the boat damaged until later when they hit a piece of ice under water on their way home that damaged the steering. a relative had to come retrieve them, no wonder someone posted is this the prequel to titanic? tsunami ahead, thankfully yen isn't dead. wow was the victim of overkill.

>> unbelievable. the video shows a miami man was injured in a skateboarding accident not unbeaten by cops as he trade to tell police was happening. you can see from the video, he runs in and smashes in to the wall, cracks his face against the wall and had to be taken to the hospital because of this. watch again. face first in to it. he is missing a number of teeth. >> he is like i wish i knew what happened, who hit me. he was like it doesn't make sense. they had to have hit me from the back because i don't remember seeing anybody approaching me or anything. >> keep in mind, the guy said he was beaten by -- he was beaten. police say he may have been confused following the crash which is understandable.
